Acupuncture

Chinese Medicine is holistic approach to healing that has diagnosed, treated and prevented illness for over 2000 years. There is a large body of clinical and empirical evidence that has accumulated on its use in the treatment of illness and the management of good health. An increasing amount of research is being done to explain the treatment effects according to the modern scientific approach.

In Chinese medicine, Qi is considered to be the energy that flows through meridians within the body. When the Qi is balanced, we are healthy and energetic. When it becomes imbalanced or blocked, illness may result. Treating illness is a matter of harmonizing the Qi by returning it to its regular pattern of balance and flow. Symptoms are not treated in isolation, but perceived as a pattern into which the total clinical picture is recognized. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile disposable needles into points on thes meridians to correct any imbalance in the flow of Qi.

Traditional Chinese medicine has several different modalities which can help to re-establish health and harmony in the body. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, exercise and diet are among those used most often.

The following is a list of some of the illnesses which may benefit from acupuncture which was compiled by The World Health Organization (WHO).
